Comments and Comments Received

Yesterday, Bud, one of the people on my dissertation committee, emailed me comments on the chapter I sent him. He was pleased overall and had just five brief comments. I started working on addressing them last night and knocked off three of them. With one of the concerns I knew I needed to add something. I was thinking I would write two or three sentences. Well, by the time I stopped writing -- and I wasn't done yet -- I had two or three pages. I won't use all of that, but I might take some of it and move it to another chapter.

yesterday I realized that a chapter I am working on that I thought was about finished was a lot shorter than I thought it would be. Today I relistened to some of the recordings I made with Daniel and thought of some other things it would be good to include in the chapter. It's nearly done.

Literature review next.

Dissertation Completed

Not mine, unfortunately. Adam, one of my participants defended his thesis on Friday. He passed. On on Sunday he was getting on a plane for California so he could start a new job at Sun in California on Monday.

I talked to him about how he felt about the defense on Saturday, and he told me he thought of it as less high-pressured than when he was interviewing for industry jobs. He was quite pragmatic about the whole thing, but I would not say that he thought of things as a waste of time at all.

Chapter Revised

Last night I revised a dissertation chapter, using Tony's suggestions. This morning I submitted the revised version to one committee member and will submit another copy to another committee member tomorrow.

When I was leaving the office last night, I noticed that I had missed my appointment with the schedule deputy to determine when I will be teaching next semester. I came in this morning to ask her if she would be willing to reschedule and she gave me a slot this very afternoon. It's great to work with reasonable people.

Chapter Back

Got a chapter back from Tony today with his comments on it. He was quite happy with what he saw and only asked for revisions that related to style or typos. I can do that quickly and send the revised version to the other members.

Other than that, I am doing well working on two other chapters and sending out more job search materials.
